Yukon College and the Centre for Sociocratic Governance: North-America are co-hosting an International Conference on Dynamic Governance/Sociocracy. This event will bring together the world’s leading thinkers in this innovative governance model and allow attendees to get an in-depth look at what this effective approach can contribute to their lives and organizations.
The organizers are seeking proposals from interested parties who have significant experience around Dynamic/Sociocratic governance. Specifically, but not exclusively, the topics will revolve around the four themes below.
Themes of Conference
Sociocracy was developed in Holland in an attempt to address specific issues that were very well understood in engineering, but not in human systems: Power, Resistance, Safety, Feedback, and Linkages. There have been many attempts to work around these issues and the newly implemented models often lead to temporary change. The commonality between the various approaches is that they are all dependent on personalities rather than on a systemic structuring that enables better decision-making, safety, satisfaction, and collaboration.
Many people have had the experience of working in a stimulating environment and enjoying their interactions with their colleagues and superiors, only to have that very positive energy transformed into negativity after a change in leadership or personnel. When such changes occur, the impact on organizations and their people can be disastrous.
This conference aims at showcasing Dynamic/Sociocratic Governance and Decision-making as a solid and effective alternative to current systems. Mainly, we aim to highlight its contributions in the following three areas:
| Education | Business | Communities |
Types of Presentations Sought
The organisers are seeking presentations that will be informative and give attendees information about the methods and benefits of implementing the Sociocratic Governance model in the various thematic areas of the Conference. The challenges of implementation will also be addressed, and an exchange period with the guests is expected. Each session will last between 75 and 90 minutes, including discussion time. See the conference program for some of the ideas we are considering already. This program, however, is still being drafted. We are looking for even more exciting ideas – yours!
